What are MS Polymer Adhesives & Sealants?
MS Polymers are moisture-curing elastic adhesives and sealants, based on silyl-modified polymer (SMP) technology. MS polymers combine all of the best properties of one-component polyurethane and silicones whilst limiting their individual inherent weaknesses. This is due to modified silane chemistry having a high weathering resistance (silicone technology) and high-performance bonding properties (polyurethane technology).
There is a wide spectrum of MS polymers that range from low-strength sealants to high-strength structural adhesives. The properties of the adhesive or sealant can easily be modified for specific applications and requirements (e.g. strength, flexibility, hardness, adhesion range, etc.)
MS polymer sealants are mostly supplied in one-component systems which are moisture-curing, meaning they cure through exposure to air or moisture in the atmosphere at ambient temperatures. MS polymer sealants are sometimes supplied in two-component systems, which use water present in the secondary component as the ‘activator’, as opposed to atmospheric moisture.

- Permanent Flexibility: MS polymers have inherent flexibility. They can expand and contract in dynamic bonding applications that have movement, as well as withstand changes in temperature and environmental conditions.
- Solvent Free: MS sealants do not contain solvents (unlike many varieties of polyurethanes). When sealants that contain solvents are curing, the solvent will evaporate, causing shrinkage of the sealant.
- Stain Resistance: Unlike silicone sealants, MS sealants do not stain or bleed.
- Formulation Versatility: Can easily be modified for different application requirements by varying the chemical backbone and using different additives.
- Environmental friendliness: Solvent-free and isocyanate-free
- Good Shelf Life: Excellent storage stability
- Ability to Join Dissimilar Materials: Inherent flexibility and elongation allow the bond line to absorb the stress that occurs through different materials that have varying expansion coefficients.
- Resistance to Temperature Changes: stays fluid for ease to gun out
- Paintability: MS sealants provide good paintability unlike silicone sealants
